Cahir Social and Historical Society
The Society's next event is a talk on Whort picking in the Cahir and Vee Valley areas by Michael Conry. The event will take place in Cahir Castle on Thursday, May 8th, 2014, at 8pm. The admission charge is 5 euro for the general public, 3 euro for society members and no charge for under eighteens.
The picking of whorts, also known as fraughans, bilberries or blueberries, was a common practice in the area in the first half of the 20th century and provided a small but important boost to the incomes of many people.

For those of us who went on the pilgrim trail in Kilcommon on Saturday, we wish to thank the organizers of this beautiful day out. We were swept away by the magic of the area, the hospitality, entertainment and delicious food. Well done Bernadette and the Kilcommon community. A trail which we must put in our calendar!

Thank you to the Galtee Walking Club members for all your help and assistance with the Winter Walking Festival, especially the leaders and sweepers who led walks in awful weather conditions.
Despite the weather we had great feedback from those who attended. So thank you one and all and lets hope June will be much kinder to us.
