Spring/Summer Evening Walk Series

April 12th brought the return of our Wednesday evening walks in the greater Galtee area. James Bourke led the first one in the scenic Glen of Aherlow area, starting from the Christ the King statue. A group of 8 braved the elements and walked to the Millennium Stone. Last Wednesday’s walk to Darby’s Bed in Galbally was led by Denny O’Dwyer. Much milder than the previous Wednesday and so drew a crowd of 14. The loop took in the old famine wall and the Megalithic Burial Chamber, more commonly known as Darby’s Bed.

A different walk will be held each Wednesday evening until the end of the Summer. The walks start at 7pm from varying locations – keep an eye on our calendar for up-to-date information and booking.

Upcoming walks include Goretti Campbell’s now famous Cush Cuckoo walk on May 3rd, a hike up Slievereagh in the Ballyhoura Mountains by Mary Murphy on May 24th and to Temple Hill, one of the highest peaks in the Galtees led by Tom Lyons on June 14th.
