November Round Up

With the new Hillwalking year beginning on November 1st, Galtee Walking Club and all our members did not hold back. Instead, we as a group began November with an absolute bang!

Our first weekend began with a challenging, scenic A Walk in The Comeraghs led by Kevin Finn. Ten members were brought along a path that offered views of Lough Mohra and also travelled along Knockanafrin Ridge. This was a busy weekend for the club walking schedule as James Bourke guided 14 hardy hikers on a 9km Loop including Slievenard (The Bane), while Margaret Hayes was joined by eleven fellow walkers on her ‘Padraig’s Loop’ C Walk in Lisvernane.

The momentum continued as myself and fourteen walking enthusiasts braved Moylussa (Clare’s High Point). This will be part of the County Top Series I have been working on for the club and all information will be circulated to members in the coming days. WE LOVE A CHALLENGE AT GALTEE WALKING CLUB! Eddie McGrath and his group of nine completed the day with a leisurely, two hour Loop beginning at Christ The King.

To celebrate the Beaver Full Moon in November, I led 21 walkers from Cush Car Park, with this being many of the groups first ever night hike. Sincere thanks to members that helped sweep on the night – Pat Boland, Kevin Finn, James Bourke, Sharon Aherne and Noreen Holmes. Luckily, we were blessed with spectacular views of a glowing full moon. Adrian Foley followed this walk up the next day with an A Walk which began at Lake Muskry Car Park. Three members and one guest explored all the Galtees had to offer and also challenged themselves to the famous peak that is Cush.

The famous Denny O’Dwyer guided twelve walkers through Combaun Woods where the craic and banter was being served on tap throughout the walk. Great satisfaction and enjoyment was felt by all on this walk. There was even a small bit of competition with the Ballyhoura Bears who had the same mission as Denny and his team.

To see out our November Walks, Joe Longeran and six members battled with the “Fan Favourite” Temple Hill. This B Walk took in 15km and brought an end to an entertaining, rewarding and enjoyable November series.

See you all throughout December!
